Denise C. Purro (Crete), 52, of Providence, passed away Thursday, December 18, 2008 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of Louis Purro. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of Angela M. (Pescosolido) Crete and the late Laurent L. Crete.
Denise had owned and operated, along with her husband, the Bradford Convenience Store on Atwells Ave., Providence. She was a woman whose family and friends meant everything and was known in the community as a kind and generous person.
Denise returned to URI as her own children were entering grammar school, and received a bachelor degree in Businesses Administration in 1999; she was accepted to Beta Gamma Sigma, an honor society that recognizes academic achievement to the top 10% of students internationally. She went on to manage “Bradford Properties,” the real estate company she and her husband established in 1988. She was a volunteer at the Trinity Repertory Theater and was also the coordinator of the Classical High School student store.
Along with her family and neighbors, and the help of the Providence tree planting program, she planted over 50 trees to help beautify her Mt. Pleasant Neighborhood. She was honored to have been recognized over the years with numerous awards and citations for community work and customer service. Her favorite time of year was summer, when she could enjoy family and friends at her “beach house” at Scarborough.
Besides her husband of 27 years and her mother, she leaves a son, Stephen Purro; two daughters, Allegra and Ariana Purro; a brother, Larry L. Crete; a stepfather, Ted Zolnierz and a father-in-law, Luigi Purro.
Her funeral will be held Monday at 9 AM from the MACERONI Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., North Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in St. Augustine Church, Mt. Pleasant Ave., Providence. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. VISITATION Sunday 4-7 PM. Donations in her memory may be made to Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island, 169 George St., Pawtucket RI 02860.
