ZINNO, CARMELA “MAE” (PACE), 98, of Providence, passed away Monday, January 16, 2012 at Victoria Court Assisted Living in Cranston. She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas C. Zinno and the loving mother of the late Jackie Zinno and Sally Ann Zinno. She was the sister of the late Mary Ricci, Guido and Ernest Pace.
Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Michele and Antonetta (Famiglietti) Pace. She lived a long, full and healthy life and was a devoted mother, loving wife and a caring friend to all those whose lives she touched. As a young girl, she worked in her mother's small grocery store where she learned to be resourceful with what she had, while being self-taught through reading & doing. She loved being a homemaker and a mother, making her own clothes, gardening, cooking & baking, and helping her husband with his business. She enjoyed Narragansett Bay in the summer, especially with friends & family at Longmeadow Beach where she learned the art of cooking a quahog. She lead an active social life and was a member of the Daughers of Isabella at St. Ann’s Church. She had many interests and always enjoyed learning something new; she was an avid reader of The Providence Journal and especially liked reading articles on good heath. Vacations would find her traveling to many new and exciting destinations with her husband and their lifelong best friends Pearl and Angelo (Chip) Belmonte, but she was always "happy to come home to Providence." Her last happy years were spent living a full life at Victoria Court Assisted Living in Cranston, where she made many new and loving friends.
She leaves her devoted son, Thomas C. Zinno, Jr of Martha's Vineyard, MA, where she loved to visit, and many loving friends & relatives whose lives she touched.
Her funeral will be held Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 9 a.m. from the MACERONI FUNERAL HOME, 1381 Smith St., North Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Augustine Church, 639 Mt. Pleasant Ave., Providence. Visitation Friday 6-8 p.m. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Catholic Charity Permanent Endowment Fund, One Cathedral Square, Prov. R.I. 02903.
