Ascanio Ottaviano

Asciano "Otto" Ottaviano, who practiced and taught architecture in the Syracuse, NY area, died on Tuesday, April 22, 2008 in Seattle, Washington. His long struggle with Alzheimer’s ended at the Alterra of Lynnwood nursing home. He is best known for his work in Syracuse, New York on commercial and municipal buildings as well as his parish church, Holy Family.

Ascanio was born in Providence, RI, a son of the late John and Josephine (Montaquila) Ottaviano. There he grew up, worked for his father’s soda business, and graduated from North Providence High School. He went on to college and received his Bachelor of Architecture degree from Syracuse University’s School of Architecture in 1957. Following graduation, he worked for several Syracuse architectural firms before starting his own, the former Ottaviano Associates, in 1972. While running his own business, for over 20 years he worked concurrently as an adjunct professor at the Onondaga County Community College School of Architectural Technology. He was also a long-time member and former President of the Solvay-Geddes-Camillus Kiwanis Club. One of his personal passions was golf.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Lillian “Scotty” currently of Seattle, WA. He is also survived by his two daughters Christina Ottaviano-Boury of Paris, France and Pamela Ottaviano Rhodes of Seattle, WA, and his son Anthony Ottaviano of New York, NY. He was the brother of the late Thomas Ottaviano.

His funeral will be held Wednesday at 9am, from the MACERONI Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., North Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in Our Lady of Grace Church, George Waterman Rd., Johnston. VISITATION Tuesday 5-8 PM. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
