Alvera "Auntie Vera" Gasbarro

Alvera “Auntie Vera” Gasbarro, 89, of North Providence, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, August 13, 2011. Born in Providence, she was the youngest child of the late Antonio and Enrica (Andreozzi) Gasbarro. She moved to North Providence in 1966.

Vera was Vice President of A. Gasbarro & Sons, Inc., a liquor and wine distributor on Federal Hill in Providence that her father founded in 1898. She was very proud of her Italian heritage. She graduated from Classical High School and attended Regis College. A devout Catholic, she was a communicant of St. Augustine Church and was a member of the Rosary and Altar Society. She also volunteered at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital. She loved gardening and was a member of the Sundial Garden Club of North Providence.

She leaves several nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly and also many great and great-great nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Sossio, Ugo, Frank, Egidio “Gigi”, Pasco, Alfred and Helen Gasbarro, Eugenia “Jennie” Di Paolo and Teresa Maceroni.

Visitation at the MACERONI Funeral Home, 1381 Smith Street, North Providence Tuesday morning, August 16, 2011, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Augustine Church, Mt. Pleasant Ave., Providence. Burial will be in Santa Maria del Campo Cemetery, Barrington. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Fruit Hill Day Services for Elderly, 399 Fruit Hill Ave., North Providence, RI 02911.
